RTM featured at AI in Journalism conference

RTM’s essayist for the ABU’s Future of News report, Ahmad Shafiq Mirza Mansor, was one of the industry panellists at the 8th International SEARCH conference at Taylors University in Kuala Lumpur on 11-12 November.

The conference theme was AI in Journalism and it was attended by about 100 people, including academics from across the Asia-Pacific region, researchers and postgraduate students. It was opened by Malaysia’s Minister for Communications Fahmi Fadzil.

The industry panel also included the ABU’s Director of News, Deborah Steele, and the Head of Digital News at Bernama, Syed Iylia Hariz Al-Qadri Syed Izman.

Ahmad Shafiq Mirza Mansor is the Senior Assistant Director of Engineering at RTM News & Current Affairs. He explained how RTM is using AI to enhance content production and the viewer experience while also improving efficiency and productivity.

The industry panel also discussed the pros and cons of Generative Ai in newsrooms, disinformation and ways to reduce the risk of amplifying fake news.
