AVN & AIL strengthen cross-regional news collaboration
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) News and Alianza Informativa Latinoamericana (AIL) are strengthening collaboration between their respective regional news exchange organisations.
In a recent online meeting, ABU News and AIL highlighted their complementary strengths. ABU News’ extensive Asia-Pacific network and AIL’s robust regional coordination in Latin America now form a framework for broader global news exchange.
The meeting was attended by AIL Executive Director Juan Carlos Isaza Montejo, AIL Editorial Coordinator Alejandra Soler García, and the ABU News team. The session focused on operational alignment and addressing shared challenges—specifically, the limited contribution levels from certain member broadcasters.
To address this, ABU News Director Indra Singh emphasised the importance of building sustained relationships with members and consistently encouraging them to upload and share news content.
The participants exchanged details on how ABU News and AIL operate, including editorial oversight, content verification, and daily communication workflows. Discussions also outlined how news content is sourced and distributed across their respective platforms.
ABU News Producer Amira Ismail shared the organisation’s news exchange workflow, explaining that members upload content directly to the platform—a method also utilized by AIL. She also highlighted the importance of social media visibility, noting that digital platforms help alert members to breaking news and the availability of compelling visual content.
Both organisations reviewed their communication strategies to ensure timely coordination, editorial clarity, and consistent engagement with broadcasters.
Beyond daily news services, ABU News Project Officer Nerina Rosli outlined the union’s three annual flagship events: the Global News Forum, the News Group Meeting, and the Coordinators’ Meeting. Similarly, Juan Carlos shared details regarding the upcoming AIL news summit, to be held in Guatemala in May 2026.
AIL also highlighted its member awards program, which mirrors ABU News’ practice of recognizing outstanding contributions from its members. The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhance coordination, particularly when responding to breaking news of global significance.
