ABU-AIL join forces
Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and the Alliance of Latin American Information (AIL) have officially partnered to create a news content exchange for their member broadcasters. The new agreement will allow both organizations to share news and resources, bringing a wider range of international stories to viewers across Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the ABU General Assembly in Mongolia by ABU Secretary-General Ahmed Nadeem and AIL Director Juan Carlos Isaza Montejo. AIL represents 21 Latin American television stations that share news and technical resources.
Indra Singh, ABU Director of News, noted that the official deal follows a successful trial run.
“We had been using AIL’s content and they ours on a trial basis, and after that period, both parties saw the clear benefit of making this collaboration official,” he said.
The partnership will allow the ABU to provide more Latin American content through its Asiavision news exchange, enriching its members’ international coverage. “It also means our members’ content will now be reaching homes in a completely different part of the world,” Singh added.
AIL Director, Juan Carlos Isaza Montejo & ABU Secretary-General, Ahmed Nadeem signed the Memorandum of Understanding between ABU-AIL News Exchange during ABU General Assembly in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
AIL’s Juan Carlos Isaza Montejo expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “This new agreement signed in Ulaanbaatar will allow our organization to take a very important step toward providing our 21 partner television channels with a global news service under a news exchange cooperation agreement,” he said. He emphasized that the collaboration is vital in an era of social media and misinformation, highlighting the need for “collaboration between serious, responsible, and recognized media outlets… to protect democracy, freedom of expression, and press freedom.”
