OUR FOUNDATIONAL COMMITMENT

Governing Intelligence,
Securing Trust

This hub serves as the central resource for ABU's non-binding principles, member case studies, and ongoing updates to ensure the ethical and effective adoption of Artificial Intelligence across media organizations.

The 4 General Principles (Summary)

For quick reference, these are the main pillars guiding our members in the development and implementation of AI solutions.

1. Data, Security and Sustainability

Adhere to stringent data privacy standards and robust cybersecurity. Consider the environmental impact (energy consumption) in AI operations and adopt sustainable practices.

2. AI for Diversity and Inclusion

Enhance diversity in content production and representation. Actively monitor AI tools to mitigate bias and avoid exclusionary practices, promoting inclusive storytelling.

3. Ethics, Transparency and Accountability

Ensure AI systems operate transparently (explainable decisions). Maintain accountability for AI-generated content, which must be clearly labelled to uphold audience trust.

4. Human Oversight and Intervention

AI must assist rather than replace human decision-making at the final stage. Editors and creators retain control, and protocols for human intervention must be established when standards are not met.
